Makeup Monday - Beauty clean out

Storing makeup can be a challenge, especially if you’re sharing space with other people. Given that it’s something most of us use every day, it’s worth getting organised so you can cut time from your morning routine and keep your products clean.
Follow these steps for the ultimate makeup spring clean:
1. Check for Expired Product
If you’re anything like us, you can tend to hoard products without even realizing it. Get everything you’ve got out and take a look at it. Is there anything that you can’t even remember purchasing? Read this story on expired products to determine whether or not they’re headed for the bin. If you find empty containers, throw them out. Broken makeup? Read this post as you might be able to salvage them.

2. Clean
Gather all your makeup brushes and give them the once-over. Any that are truly dismal looking should head to the bin and you can purchase fresh ones here.
Those that are still worth keeping probably need a good clean. Check out out guide to washing makeup brushes. Once they’re dry, you’ll want to find a way to store them. We found this image on Pinterest and love the idea of keeping things organised and looking gorgeous cute at the same time.

3. Sort
Now that you’ve thrown out the expired products and products you haven’t touched in months and taken out your brushes, you’ll have a better idea of what you’ve got.
Organise everything into categories – base, eyes, lips and extras – and work out what you use every day, what you use every few days and what you only use for special occasions. If you’re the type to touch up on the go, you might also like to work out which products you need to carry with you.

4. Store
Whatever you use everyday should be on display and ready to grab. Check out The Makeup Box Shop. They have fabulous containers that allow you to see all your makeup so you can grab whatever you need. Fill the top drawers with your every day products and the next few with the things you only use every few days.
Invest in a few Makeup Bags and keep one with a few products that you can carry everywhere. Don’t let your makeup float around your bag, it will dirty your hand bag, leave germs on the product and it’s more likely you’ll lose things.
In another makeup bag, keep the products you only use for special occasions. This can be stored in a drawer or cupboard as you won’t need it as frequently.

5. Assess
After a week or so, assess how you think your newly organised makeup situation has been working for you. If there is anything stored that you’re using more often than you realized, get it out. Anything you didn’t touch can be stored.
You might also find that there are a few things your missing. If so, it’s time to hit the ELES Shop and get shopping!

Makeup Monday - 2012 color

Another creative way to update the classic style? Swap out that white for some brighter lacquers. Nudes and neons make a surprisingly stunning effect. And having a bright shade on your nails will keep you smiling throughout the day.

Looking to make a change in your look, and your life, as well? From swapping in a mood-boosting fragrance to eating fruits that will keep your skin glowing, we've rounded up the easiest ways you can revamp your look and see instant results. Since Pantone named Tangerine Tango as 2012's hottest color it seems to have dominated this year's makeup trends. And for good reason; the cheerful color is subtler than red but still has a bold, eye-catching effect.

Have you ever changed your lipstick color and gotten questions like: "Did you lose weight?" Or "Is that a new haircut?" It's amazing how tiny tweaks like these can have such a huge impact -- and not just on what you see in the mirror, but on your confidence levels too.

applying the hue when you want to expose the most important features on your face -- whether that be to make your eyes pop, cheeks flush, or perfect your pout and pairing it with a warm metallic. Gold is also harmonious with orange and closely related in the color family. And for a fun bonus, the tangerine shade is also said to stimulate creativity, which could come in handy next time you need a brilliant idea. To wear it, start with a coral-based orange, which is flattering on most complexions. Update the French manicure
Nail art and design has exploded recently but if 3D decals aren't your style we recommend updating the French manicure. Celebrity manicurist Jenna Hipp says if you want to keep the classic nude-white color combo try "shaping nails into an oval shape." She says "round out those blunt, square edges for fingers to appear longer and if painting the white tip is a must, choose a muted white or even a soft ivory for a look that's more natural."

Makeup Monday - Make makeup last

Prep Your Skin

Wash your face with a mild cleanser to remove makeup, oil, and dirt, then use a gentle scrub to buff off any dry patches. Or, if you have sensitive skin, use a liquid exfoliant. Blot your skin dry, and spritz on a soothing rose or chamomile toner to add a dewy glow. Then, rather than slathering on a heavy moisturizer, opt for a gel-based lotion that'll leave your face smooth and help extend the wear of your makeup.

Create a flawless canvas

First, select a foundation that's suited to your skin type. Choose a matte finish if you tend to get oily, and go with a creamy formula if you're on the dry side. Steer clear of illuminating formulas, as digital photography is hyper-sensitive to shimmer and can make glowing skin look greasy. Apply a light layer of primer, then use a foundation brush to sweep makeup onto the t-zone. Blend it out to the edges of your face and ears, taking care to work it into your neck and hairline. Then, press it into your skin with your fingers. This picks up excess makeup and smoothes out telltale lines. Finally, keep shine in check by applying a mattifying balm or rice powder to your T-zone.  Throughout the day, use blotting sheets to soak up excess oil without removing your makeup.

Conceal and Camouflage

To eliminate dark under eye circles or shadows on the inner corners of the eyes, reach for a creamy concealer. Apply it with your fingers to prevent residual amounts from sinking into fine lines. For blemishes and pimples, regular concealer just doesn't cut it. Instead, use a camouflage, a type of cover-up that's tacky to the touch. It's a drier version of concealer that's densely pigmented and less emollient so it stays put and makes anything vanish. Apply a tiny amount with a small, pointed brush, and repeat to build coverage if needed.

Prime Your Eyelids

"Eye shadow primers smooth out the skin on the lid, cover up veins, and prevent shadows and liners from migrating for hours," says Julie Harris, a New York City makeup artist. After smoothing it over the entire lid and the eye crease with your finger, dust on a neutral bone- or almond-colored shadow with a fluffy brush.

Apply Liner Like a Pro

For a very defined line, use a felt-tipped liquid liner, brush and gel or a waterproof eyeliner pencil; then to set it, trace the line with a thin brush dipped in a matching eye shadow powder. For a softer line, apply regular kohl eyeliner before your base neutral eye shadow, The shadow will smudge it out a bit for a diffused look.

Budge-Proof Your Blush

Blush often pulls a disappearing act half way through the day. To make it stay put, layering is key. First, smooth a cream formula onto the apples of your cheeks. Then, dust on an oil-absorbing invisible powder to lock in the color. Lastly, apply a final coat of powder blush with a large, fluffy brush.

Wear Waterproof Mascara

Chances are pretty good that you're going to experience a happy tear or two, so why risk a streaky mess? "Waterproof formulas are the way to go for weddings, but they can dry out quickly and make lashes look spidery if you're not careful," says Harris. To get around this, use a brand new tube on the day of your wedding, and separate your lashes with a lash comb after applying it. Or, eliminate the need for mascara altogether by opting for faux lashes or even long-lasting lash extensions.

Make your lipstick last

Long-lasting lip products work well, but they often feel thick and dry. The good news? It's easy to make your regular lipstick last longer and feel comfortable, First, prep lips with a moisturizing lip balm, then use a washcloth to buff it -- and any dry skin -- off. Next, fill in lips completely with a flesh-toned lip liner or clear lip pencil to give your lipstick a base to adhere to. Apply your lipstick with a lip brush, blot with a tissue, and then repeat. Matte lipsticks last the longest, but if you want a hint of shine, layer on a gloss or balm. Just remember, adding these slippery toppers also shorten the lifespan of your color and increases the need for touch-ups.

Tuesday Tempters - Eve Lom cleanser

Cleansing is the most important part of skincare and the Eve Lom Cleanser once described by Vogue UK as the “best cleanser in the world” is the basis of the Eve Lom skincare regime.
With a powerful blend of Egyptian chamomile, hops, clove and eucalyptus oil, together with cocoa butter the Eve Lom Cleanser cleanses, tones, exfoliates all in one. Even the most stubborn make-up and eye make-up will be removed. The specially woven muslin cloth (100% cotton) is used with the Cleanser to improve skin circulation while cleansing and exfoliating the skin in minutes. The result is clean, perfectly balanced skin and a radiant complexion.
Suitable for all skin types. Use once a day, at night, for normal/dry skin types and twice a day, morning and night, for oily/very oily skin types.

  • The Ritual: Massage a small amount onto the face and neck over grime and make-up from the day. At this stage the cleanser will remove all forms of make-up from the skin.
  • Fill a basin with hot water and immerse the muslin cloth. Squeeze off excess water and gently press the cloth onto the face and neck for a few seconds. The heat will soften the skin and open the pores, allowing the aromatic oils to cleanse the skin of impurities. For the optimum cleanse, repeat this stage three times.
  • Fold the hot, rinsed cloth into a square and work it in small, circular movements across the face and neck to remove all traces of Cleanser. The muslin will gently exfoliate the skin surface and encourage blood circulation, leaving the skin feeling exceptionally smooth.
  • When using the Cleanser at night, rinse the cloth in cool water and press onto the face and neck. This helps close the pores, giving the skin a more even, toned appearance. It also leaves the skin feeling fresh and ultra clean.
Please note, Eve Lom recommends a fresh Muslin cloth each day, or every second day. Muslin Cloths can be hand washed, boiled or put in the washing machine. Extra Muslin Cloths sold separately here: http://www.meccacosmetica.com.au/shop/EveLom/MuslinCloths/
conclusion:
after using this cleanser once I was hooked. I was very skeptical as I have very oily skin and the thought of one cleanser for all skin types horrifies me. But it removed all my long wear makeup in one rinse and left my skin feeling smooth as a babies bottom. I would rate this as my top cleanser of all time a definite must have for every girl. available at Meccacosmetica.com.au in three sizes.

Makeup tips from the experts

Eyeliner can be your best friend, or your worst enemy. There are so many tricks to the trade. So how do you know if you are doing it right for the best and most flattering look? I have found makeup expert tips from all over the web to get that look you are looking for. Or just some tips you may have not thought of for your best look.

Layer Your Liner

"If you’re not a professional makeup artist, it can be difficult to line those eyes, but then again liquid liner tends to stay on longer and smudge-free. So what I do is, I line my eyes first with a pencil liner because it’s easier to make that straight line with it. Then I go back on the line with the liquid liner. It’s kind of like coloring! The result? Your eye liner will stay on, smudge-free, and well-lined."
-Ysolt Usigan, beauty and style contributor at Huffington Post

For Soft and Sexy Eye Makeup

"For an eye look that’s defined but not too heavy, line your upper lash line with black eyeliner and the bottom lash line with brown eyeliner. This is one of my biggest makeup artist tricks for beautiful, soft eyes!”
-Mally Roncal, celebrity makeup artist

To Open Up Your Eyes

"Take a white eye pencil and line the inside rim of your lower eyelid. This really makes eyes pop! Fun fact: Look at the old black/white photos of the gorgeous women of the ‘30s and ‘40s like Marlene Dietrich and you'll see this was done to them. Additionally, if your eyes are a close set, use the white pencil to lightly line the section where the upper and lower lids come together, closest to the nose. This will make them appear wider apart. The key here is to make sure it's subtle."
-Candice Sabatini, editorial director of BeautyNewsNYC.com

For Thin Brows

"For people with thin brows, use a pencil first that is a bit lighter than your natural color to define the shape, then follow with a brow powder that is close to your natural hair color with a thin, strong angle brush. After, use a brow gel or sealer which will set the powder. My fave is the Model in a Bottle - Long Lasting Eyebrow Sealer. It is by far the best sealer out there and I have tried many.”
-Lauren Fanuzzi, beauty guru and art director

Make Mascara Count

"Make a $5 tube of mascara look as good as the results from a $25 tube by holding a business card up along the inside edge of your lashes and sweeping the brush against it with your other hand. This way your lashes can't bend out of the way of the brush and you end up coating every lash all the way to the tip. The results will leave you wide-eyed in more ways than one.”
-Wendy Toth, senior lifestyle editor for Digital Works @NBCU

On the Inside

"Lining the waterline, or inner rim of the eye, adds intensity and extra definition, and creates the illusion of a thicker, fuller lash line."
-Gilbert Soliz, Lead Artist for the Sephora PRO Beauty Team

Faking the Straight Line
"Smudging is key when you're afraid you won't create a straight line," says Chang-Babaian. "When applying eyeliner, it's not about creating a straight line with the pencil, but going back and forth with your brush until the line is smooth."
-Eye makeup guru, Taylor Chang-Babaian, author of "Style Eyes.

Larger Eyes

"If you completely cover both the top and bottom lash lines with liner, you're going to close the eye, making it look smaller. To make it look larger, you only want to apply it both halfway on top and bottom."
Makeup artist Carmindy from TLC's What Not to Wear

Make Them Look

"Wherever you put darkness is where your eye is drawn to, which means eyeliner allows you to change the shape of your eye." Got small eyes? Make them bigger with a smoky wraparound. Want to elongate your eyes' width? Do an exaggerated winged tip."
-Eye makeup guru, Taylor Chang-Babaian, author of "Style Eyes.
