Besides celebrating the end of highschool, you want to be pretty in the pictures so you can actually look back on them many years later..

Choosing a prom dress is not always easy it seems, so take some tips:

DO:

You’re barely 18, so leave home the long dresses and be the young woman that you are. Along with that, there’s no need to put your hair up, it’s not your wedding day! Tone it all down and focus on bringing out your best assets.Strapless dresses are always safe, halter type dresses should be carefully chosen, as time changes and so does fashion! Keep it light and flowy or tight and sexy, but don’t have too many cutouts or extra fabric!

Ease up on the makeup as well, because people know you from when you were younger and adding extra layers on the face, will not leave the best impression.

Try to accessorize accordingly and put your sexiest heels on! (make sure they’re dance proof) No matter what your personality, try to find something that sets you apart and show it off in your styling. Make it a night to REMEMBER!!

DON’T:

Seriously, when I see some of the prom dresses online or on tv, I think “God, does your mom send you out like this?! Look in the mirror for crying out loud!”. There’s NO need whatsoever to add all those fabrics and layers that will only add to your weight (even if only by illusion).

Cakes are supposed to be eaten, not worn! Trust me, less is more on prom night, you will regret looking like a fool 10 years later. And why so much bling?? If you’re already blinged out in accessoiries, keep it light on your dress.

Have a stud or two embroidered, have one shoulder embellished, but not the whole goddamn dress, you’re not supposed to act as a LIGHT on the party  As I said with the DO’s, don’t feel the need to come out as a boring old lady or 90′s bridezilla, keep your hair loose in light waves, have one side up with a nice broach, or keep a sleek sexy ponytail. You can go so many ways nowadays, so get it right! For coloring, go light and solid, don’t mix and match too much (unless you find a nice subtle flower print – NO HEAVY STRIPING!) and don’t go for brown, dark blue, heavy purple, deep red – they just make you look older and it’s you’re last night of Highschool.. you have the rest of your life to feel old! Ease down on the make up, no heavy eye shadow (especially nothing that matches your dress!), keep a liner, a nice lip gloss (lipstick is for women :p) and seem peachy/pink blush on your fresh cheeks (http://dramaterialist.wordpress.com/2012/05/10/prom-dos-and-donts/)
