Tuesday Tempters- occ lip tar

October has arrived, and that means the spring collections are hitting stores faster than we can swatch a lipstick. We’re talking cosmetics of course, where the new thing is bright lips, and jewel-toned eyes—looks that practically scream romance and danger.

Though shades of purple, plum, fushia and orange are popping up in makeup shops all over town, Beautylish favorite Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics is keeping ahead of the game with their new 'Heroine' collection. The new line includes a whopping six mixable, matte, spring-worthy lip tars—plus a dirty, violet-hued loose shadow they’ve named “Overlook.” Surprisingly, the color is carmine-free, making it one of the few vegan friendly purple shadows on the market.

Fox in the Box is back - where the we personally try various products and let you know our verdict. This time I share my experience about the innovative Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tars and a few little tips and tricks on using them!

I was first introduced to OCC Lip Tars from watching Youtube beauty videos and reading beauty blogs. They appeared to be somewhat of a cult product to beauty addicts everywhere -  what have I been missing out on all this time?!?
However, OCC products are not easily accessible in Australia, so I don’t need to tell you how ecstatic I was when I discovered that bellabox stocks Lip Tars! As much as I wanted to buy all the gorgeous shades, I restrained myself (very proud of that!) and ended up with 4 (for now) – Trollop, Interlace, Pageant and Strumpet.

Here are the swatches for Trollop (pink cranberry coral) and Interlace (subtle peach neutral). As you can see, the formulation is super pigmented and a little goes a long long way!
Don’t be tricked by the slanted tip and apply it like a lipgloss, unless you want to end up with big clown lips! Lip Tars are best applied with a lip brush for a full layer of colour or blended with fingers for a lovely tint.

The awesome thing about Lip Tars is that you can mix different colours together to create a totally unique new shade – just like paint! Here I have mixed Trollop and Interlace to create a beautiful light pink (I ended up adding a bit more of the Interlace to lighten it further).

I applied the colour with a lip brush. The colour glides on very smoothly and dries down to a satin finish. Lip Tars are 100% vegan and is free of parabens and other harsh preservatives and leaves a refreshing minty feel on the lips.
Although they have amazing staying power, I do find that it can feel a bit drying after a while so I do recommend applying some lip balm before applying the Lip Tar.
I am definitely lovin' OCC Lip Tars and find myself reaching for them whenever I'm getting ready for a night out. Have you dipped your toes lips into OCC Lip Tars and what do you think of them? Do you have a favourite shade (mine is Trollop)? Let me know below!
